Usually I get it when I bust out my science dancing moves. Or when I use funny voices when they have to "mirror" me. This time, it was over the assignment I handed them.
I gave them one of the posters from my new pack. The challenge was to draw how they THINK an electric pencil sharpener works.
Could they look inside of it? No.
Could they look it up online? No.
Could they work with a partner? No.
So, they sat. For a while. Silently. Then, a few started drawing. Then, a few more. After about 10 minutes, they were all drawing, labeling, and writing.
I was pretty pleased with what they were able to accomplish in 20 minutes! I think I'll throw them a few more curve balls like this before our time together is up. It's pretty fun to watch.
