Big Money Words: Your Most Important Science Vocabulary Word Wall

Big Money Word$ are words like reasonable, differentiate, process, analyze, and interpret.  They are words students need to know as they head toward middle school science and words that appear on state science tests.

While getting caught up in all of the new things that come with being in a new grade level in a new school, I neglected my Big Money Word$ a bit.  But, I’m on a mission to change that.  I’m careful to use proper terminology during lessons, but I need to make sure the STUDENTS are using the terminology as well.

Here is how I use Big Money Words:

• Introduce the word wall at the beginning of the year.

•During lessons and investigations, point to the words as they are used.

• When students write in their journals, ask them how they can incorporate Big Money Words.

• Use Big Money Words to support struggling students.

• It takes about 9 weeks to introduce all the words. Introduce each word informally, but within context.

Word list:

Accurate, Analyze, Classify, Components, Conclusion, Cycle, Dependent Variable, Differentiate, Distinguish, Evaluate, Evidence, Experiment, Hypothesis, Independent Variable, Inference, Inquiry, Interpret, Investigation, Justify, Model, Observation, Process, Reasonable, Reliability, System, Testable, Trial, Valid

Print and go:

These science word wall posters are a must-have for any science classroom! Big Money Words includes 28 cards for use on your Science Word Wall to reference all year long. These terms are related to experiments and science process skills.

“This was a great way to have vocabulary words displayed in the room to remind them (and me!) to expand their vocabulary when discussing and writing about science.” – Chandra E.

  1. Hi Ari!
I’ve purchased several of your products and am enjoying using them with my class. I am looking for the big money words handout for students and the link isn’t working for me from your first week of school blog. Would you mind emailing that to me or telling me where I can find it? Thanks
